We travelled over the border to Yorkshire to be videographers for this incredible wedding and celebration of love at The Chilli Barn in Otley.
Rainbow confetti, an EPIC bridal cape, rolling hills and LOTS of emotional tears, this wedding really was a joy to film.
Sam and Lou were chosen as runners up to my videography competition celebrating 10 years of filming weddings back in 2020.
Their story of overcoming lots of heartache when sharing their news of falling in love as a same sex couple really moved me. I felt they were more than deserving of having me capture their love story.
Obviously 2020 wasn’t the best year for celebrations so things got a little delayed BUT, it was totally worth the wait…
A Chilli Barn Wedding Highlights Video
A Relaxed Wedding Morning in Yorkshire
The sun was shining on Sam and Lou’s wedding day and they totally deserved it (we’ll forget about the random attempts at snow earlier on…brrrr).
They legally married during lockdown so this day was all about celebrating their love with their closest friends and family within the stunning grounds of Chilli Barn in Yorkshire.
Sam and Lou both started their mornings at Chevin End Guest House with it’s incredible panoramic views of the Yorkshire countryside.
Sam’s was a little more relaxed as she enjoyed getting ready with her Mum. Her Dad and Son, Nate joined them once she was ready to leave (and caused LOTS of tears!)
Whilst Lou had her Bridesmaids on hand, supplying feel-good tunes and lots of fizz!
Travelling in Classic Mini Style…
A few tears were shed as both Bride’s met their Dad’s before travelling over to Chilli Barn.
Nate burst in to tears when he saw Sam ready, causing the whole room to start crying! Such an emotional and beautiful moment to capture on video for them.
Lou’s bridesmaids helped her get in to her stunning Jenny Packham cape (PLEASE DON’T SELL IT LOU!!!) before her final make-up and hair touch ups with Lottie Haigh Hair and Ohana Make-Up Studio.

A Rustic Yorkshire Barn Wedding Ceremony
Chilli Barn is an intimate wedding venue nestled along a country road close to Chevin Forest Park and overlooking the scenic Lower Wharfedale.
The large windows in the rustic barn allow so much light in to this unique Yorkshire wedding venue, I can see why so many couples fall in love with their space for their wedding ceremony.
You Are Now Wife and Wife…
Sam arrived in style first with her Dad. They then snuck upstairs and listened as guests arrived to take their seats.
It was then Lou’s turn to enjoy a ride in the classic Mini wedding car. Along with her Bridesmaids in the vintage VW Campervan.
Deep breaths were needed to keep the tears at bay as Lou walked down the aisle with her Dad.
It was soon Sam’s turn to walk down the aisle with her Dad to meet Lou.
Tissues were passed around as things got a little emotional from the 2 lovely readings and personal vows.
They also added a a ring warming ceremony.
This is where the wedding rings are passed around the guests to ‘warm up’. So they start as two pieces of cold metal and come back to them warm and full of love!
Cute, right?
Whilst filming we also caught Lou’s Dad giving them a little kiss!

Rainbow Confetti For Two Brides!
If you’ve stalked me long enough you’ll know I LOVE confetti.
The more the merrier when it comes to filming this part for your wedding video!
Sam and Lou embraced the same-sex rainbow theme and went for LOADS of bright rainbow confetti from Dollz Confetti.
You have to admit, it looks great. But it also meant they had the biggest smiles getting covered in it too!

Filming Emotional Wedding Speeches…
Guests then enjoyed nibbles, drinks and ice-cream during the drinks reception as Sam and Lou posed like a couple of pro’s for their wedding photographer, ‘The Riley Shot‘.
We all then got cosy in the outside Yurt to enjoy two really beautiful and funny speeches from Lou’s Dad (read by her Uncle) and Nate.
There were even more tears, a LOT of laughter and lots of lingering bear hugs listening to those speeches!
I LOVE filming weddings when speeches get all the emotions going.
I tend to be hiding behind the camera fighting back my own tears with a lump in my throat! I’m sure I look like a professional wedding videographer with blotchy eyes and skin after crying…ha.

Afternoon Tea Reception at Chilli Barn
Things were kept relaxed with platters of food being served and no traditional speeches after the meal.
Everyone then enjoyed mingling and wrapping up in the cosy blankets as we snuck the Brides off for some couple shots during that gorgeous evening light…
First Dance As Mrs and Mrs…
Once the cake was cut the guests lined up for the tunnel of sparklers as the sun dipped behind the Yorkshire Dales hills.
Sam and Lou dashed through the sparklers and headed straight to the dancefloor as Wife and Wife.
Their smiles say it all, don’t they?

Natural and Relaxed Wedding Videography
As ever, Sam and Lou chose me as their wedding videographer to capture those natural moments.
And I’d like to think I captured that and more with all those wonderfully emotional moments too!
Posing isn’t for everyone.
And I doubt anyone wants to feel like they’re being followed around with a camera all day on their wedding day…??
Capturing Real Moments At Your Wedding
As an experienced wedding videographer I learnt early on that it’s worth making the time to get to know your couples.
To understand a little bit about their own love story and what is important to them on their wedding day.
It not only allows me to be prepared and know what to look out for on the day, but it also helps build up a trust so everyone feels relaxed around me (and my camera).
Love The Idea Of A More Relaxed Approach?
