Relaxed Black Tie Wedding at Iscoyd Park
When Emily and Jamie asked me to film their summer wedding at Iscoyd Park we had some extra decisions to make! I knew it was going to be a brilliant day. Iscoyd Park is an absolute gem of a venue, right on the border of Shropshire and Cheshire. But this wedding was extra special for another reason…it was a family wedding!
Filming as both a family member and the wedding videographer meant taking a slightly different approach than usual. After chatting about the options we decided that the main shooter for their day would be my trusted associate. Meaning I would shoot a little in the morning before I turned my attention to what truly mattered: the real connections, the shared laughter, and the warmth of family coming together in one beautiful place.
And honestly?
It proved once again that the true magic of a wedding video isn’t about perfection or the amount of coverage. I got to experience the day without a camera for a change! Excited to see what moments my associate videographer was capturing for Emily and Jamie, knowing all these amazing moments we’d be able to relive for years to come.
A Relaxed Summer Wedding Video at Iscoyd Park: Emily + Jamie
Morning Preparation: Cottage Giggles & Library Style
Emily and her bridal party got off to the best start by staying overnight in one of Iscoyd’s on-site cottages with her Bridesmaids. It is such a relaxed way to ease into the day, getting hair and make-up underway with music playing and plenty of hand-fanning as the summer temperatures began to creep up! Emily chose the talented Nala and Knot for her bridal hair and make-up team.
Later in the morning, everyone made their way over to the main Bridal Suite for those final finishing touches and for Emily to step into her dress. One of the absolute standout moments of the morning was when Emily’s dad came in for his first look. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room! The bridesmaids were in floods of tears, and the reaction was pure emotion.
Meanwhile, Jamie and his groomsmen were getting ready in Iscoyd’s statement library. They went for a sleek, formal black-tie look, with Jamie wearing a sharp white dinner jacket to add a bit of extra flair. The rich, moody backdrop of the library worked so well against their black-tie style on video.
Why Having Your Morning Recorded Means So Much Later
When you are in the middle of your wedding morning, those hours fly by in a total blur of excitement, fizz, and happy nerves. But because you and your partner spend those hours completely separate from each other, you miss out on seeing how the other person’s morning unfolded.
That is where the real magic of capturing the morning on video comes in after the wedding. Sitting down together later to watch your video lets you step into each other’s shoes for those few hours. You get to hear the quiet banter in the library as well as the struggle with the bow ties (EVERY TIME!). You can feel the build-up of butterflies, and re-watch genuine reactions (like the tears when Dad walked into the Bridal Suite) that you were too caught up in the moment to fully process at the time.
It turns the bits of the day you missed into shared memories you can keep coming back to.
A Relaxed Wedding Ceremony in the Garden Room
When it was time for the ceremony, everyone made their way to the stunning Garden Room. If you haven’t seen the Garden Room at Iscoyd Park before, it is an incredible space for a wedding videographer. The giant windows flood the entire room with soft, natural light, making the vows, the ring exchanges, and those emotional first looks look effortless on camera. That space is one of the reasons I recommended the venue to them!
It was a HOT one that day at Iscoyd so many guests came armed with fans! Our Groom spent some time calming his nerves and wiping his brow as he waited for his Bride.
Watching Emily and Jamie tie the knot surrounded by our family was a moment I’ll never forget. I remember after our wedding feeling like the ceremony went by in a blur so to be able to give them a way to relive it in their own wedding video is something I know they’ll treasure.
Drinks Receptions and Chilled Vibes on the Lawn
After the ceremony, the sunny weather played its part perfectly. The couple exited to cheers and handfuls of hand-dried confetti before a few formal group shots on the front steps. They chose wisely with Phil Salisbury for their documentary wedding photography (also recommended by me!)
Meanwhile, guests spilled out onto the terrace and manicured lawns for drinks, canapes, and garden games. As well as some incredible live music from Northern House Band.
Summer at Iscoyd Park is hard to beat! The backdrop of the red-brick house with elegant Georgian features against the green gardens creates such a relaxed, country estate vibe. Emily and Jamie may have lucked out with the weather but their meticulous planning to create that relaxed reception really paid off.
I loved wandering around the lawn watching spontaneous moments: cousins catching up, kids running through the grass, and everyone just soaking up the sunshine. Safe in the knowledge my videographer was capturing it all too!
This must be how it feels for my couples who book me for their wedding videography, right? That they can soak up all those moments together, knowing I’ll be around somewhere capturing it for them to watch back.
Wedding Speeches in the Iscoyd Marquee
Once the drinks had been enjoyed and the band had packed away, we moved into the marquee for the wedding breakfast and speeches. The marquee at Iscoyd gives you a bright, airy space that you can style however you like. This couple opted for informal banquet tables with clusters of stunning florals keeping this simple yet stylish.
After an epic arrival, it was on with the ‘family style’ meal. The speeches then followed had everyone in stitches and a few tears!
It’s important to note that using longer lenses allows me to capture all the hilarious reactions from the head table and guests without interrupting the flow of the room. Noone wants someone getting in their way just to get the shot, it can ruin the experience for you and your guests!
Sunset Ibiza Vibes & Tips For A Packed dance floor
As the sun began to set, the evening celebration kicked into high gear. Guests were treated to a giant self-serve ‘Just Married’ tiramisu alongside espresso martinis! Outside on the terrace, a live sax player set the mood, bringing those golden-hour Ibiza vibes straight to the Cheshire countryside while guests danced out in the warm evening air.
After soaking up the sunset, everyone headed back into the Garden Room for Emily and Jamie’s first dance to Olivia Dean to officially start the night.
The Northern House Band took over the stage and brought incredible energy. I can honestly say I have rarely seen a dance floor so busy! From the very first song, the floor was packed, sweaty, and non-stop fun.
My Top Tip for Your Evening Party:
If you want a packed dance floor, stay on it! Your guests take their cue from you and if you are out there dancing, having the best time, everyone else will follow. Emily and Jamie barely left the dance floor all night, and the atmosphere was electric because of it!
Why Family Wedding Videos Matter So Much
Life moves quickly, and opportunities to get your entire family together in one room don’t happen often. That is why having a video of your wedding day becomes more and more precious as time passes.
That comes from someone who got married back in 2009 and has seen first hand how the value of having a wedding video has grown. Many of our family are no longer here and being able to share the memories with our children is incredibly special.
Imagine being able to watch your wedding day back. Seeing how your granddad smiled during the toasts, hearing the roar of laughter from your best mates, and re-watching loved ones hugging who might live miles apart.
