Laughter, Love & Home-From-Home Magic: A Candid Ashfield House Wedding Video
If you’ve spent any time looking at wedding venues in Lancashire, you already know that Ashfield House in Standish is something truly special. It doesn’t feel like a stuffy hotel or a rigid corporate venue, it feels like taking over a gorgeous, stylish country home for the day with all your favourite people.
As a West Lancashire wedding videographer based just down the road, heading up to Standish is always a highlight. Ashfield House is truly one of my favourites ever since I started back in 2010! The team there have a way of making everyone feel instantly relaxed, which is essential when it comes to capturing authentic, candid wedding films.
Here is a look inside a wonderful wedding day at Ashfield House for Jane and Dave, along with a few honest thoughts for couples who might be feeling a little camera-shy or trying to decide how best to document their big day!

Starting the Morning Without Camera Nerves!
If the thought of having a camera pointed at you while you get ready makes you break out in a slight cold sweat, you are not alone! In fact, camera-shy couples are my absolute favourite people to work with.
One of the best features for spending your wedding morning at Ashfield House is The Sitting Room upstairs. Filled with natural light, plush sofas, and plenty of space for hair and makeup, it immediately sets a calm, fun vibe for morning prep.
My approach in the morning isn’t to direct you, ask you to fake-apply lipstick, or repeat moments for the camera. Instead, I blend in like an extra friend who just happens to have a lot of experience with a camera. Using subtle, silent equipment and being super friendly allows everyone to forget I’m even there. That’s how I manage to capture those genuine, belly-laugh moments with your bridesmaids and the emotional ‘first look’ with parents without any forced pressure.
Are you or your Partner nervous about standing around waiting for guests to arrive, adding to the nerves? Then know that Ashfield is the perfect place to find a bit of quiet before your ceremony too. Dave didn’t want to have that long wait at the front of the ceremony room either! He opted to stay in the cosy reception area bar with his Best Men instead. Ensuring he had a calm start to the day (and avoided too many people asking him is he was nervous!)

The ceremony room at Ashfield House is a dream blank canvas. Because of how spacious the room is, I can discreetly position myself at both the front and back during the vows without getting in the way of your guests or drawing attention to myself.
I also love how Jane and Dave really used the space too. From a memory wall of photos to the table with the special family candle they all lit together.
It’s also the perfect venue for a more relaxed approach to a wedding ceremony. Opting for a celebrant led ceremony allowed Jane and Dave to share more personal stories with their guests. The perfect way to personalise your ceremony and help it become a core memory for everyone there.
After the “I dos” and a shower of confetti on the steps, it’s time for drinks and canapés in the gardens. The sun was shining and Zoe Unsworth Music was on the mic bringing the vibes with an incredible afternoon soundtrack.
When it comes to couple portraits I love to tag along with your wedding photographer (in this case, AJM Photography). My more relaxed approach means you’re not having to ‘perform’ for two cameras. Take a short 10-minute stroll around the gardens while your guests enjoy their drinks for more relaxed couples portraits. The staff at Ashfield House are brilliant at making sure you always have a glass of fizz AND plate of canapes nearby so you’re never missing out too! I simply capture you laughing, chatting, and taking a breather together as newlyweds.
Unfiltered Speeches & Evening Party Magic
The dining room at Ashfield House always looks incredible, whether you go for classic white florals or bold, modern styling. For this wedding, Skelmersdale Flower Centre took their brief of cottage garden flowers and created a really relaxed wedding feel.
During the speeches, I choose my position wisely so I’m behind your guests and remaining unobtrusive. This means the person giving the speech isn’t staring into a camera lens two feet away and they can focus entirely on making their friends and family laugh and cry. But it also means when you watch your wedding video back, it feels like you were sat there watching them as a guest too!
Once the evening reception kicks off, the homely atmosphere at Ashfield really shines. Guests scatter across the comfy armchairs, hit the dancefloor, or gather around for evening entertainment before joining the couple for that unforgettable cake cutting and first dance.
But not just any first dance for Jane and Dave!
We were chatting at an Ashfield House wedding fair years before their big day and I shared my love of a choreographed dance for people who don’t want to just sway awkwardly on the dancefloor. Well, they ran with that idea and wowed their guests with a beautiful dance to Lonestar’s Amazed (you can see the guests reactions in the wedding video and that’s my favourite part!).
