Real Smiles & Rainy Day Magic: A Candid Wharfedale Grange Wedding Video
There is a common myth in the wedding world that you need bright, unbroken sunshine for a perfect wedding day. But if Mary-Kate and Henry’s gorgeous June day proved anything, it’s that a bit of classic Yorkshire rain at the start of the day only makes the laughter louder, the hugs tighter, and the entire vibe incredibly warm and inviting.
As a documentary-style wedding videographer that covers Yorkshire, my goal is always to let the day unfold naturally. No stiff poses and definitely no awkward staging. Just real, unscripted joy. Real moments!
And let me tell you, Mary-Kate and Henry brought the fun from the very second the morning prep started at the stunning Wharfedale Grange. We won’t talk about that missing tie drama over with the boys…
Mary-Kate and Henry’s Wedding Highlights Video: Wharfedale Grange
Morning Prep & A Rainy Start at Wharfedale Grange
The beauty of a venue like Wharfedale Grange (nestled perfectly between Leeds and Harrogate) is how seamlessly it accommodates the whole wedding party. Mary-Kate and her five bridesmaids took over the luxurious upstairs dressing room for hair and makeup, while Henry and his family and friends got ready just a stone’s throw away at the on-site farmhouse.
Even though the rain (and whether the sausage burying would kick in) was the talk of the morning, the energy was pure excitement. Capturing those quiet, nervous smiles, the champagne toasts, and the moments shared with Parent’s and close friends before the ceremony is exactly why I love a more fly-on-the-wall approach to wedding videography.

A Meaningful Ceremony at St. Aelred’s Catholic Church
The wedding party traveled and their guests down the road (on vintage double decker buses I may add) to St. Aelred’s Catholic Church in Harrogate for a beautiful, deeply personal ceremony led by a close family friend.
One of the most special elements of the morning was ensuring we captured Mary-Kate’s wonderful Grandad who was in his 90’s! Because he was only able to attend the church service and not the evening reception, filming those sweet, candid interactions with him outside the church after the confetti was a top priority. These are the fleeting, irreplaceable moments that a documentary style wedding video preserves forever.

Capturing The Grand Arrival From Above
The newlyweds made their grand reception entrance in style. Henry’s dad drove them into the venue in his incredible 1920s Frazer Nash vintage car complete with tin cans tied to the back, giving off the ultimate “Just Married” aesthetic!
I had a shot in mind that I needed to get thanks to many years watching classic Hollywood movies and it required my DJI drone to ensure I got a fun shot of that grand arrival.

Bringing the Energy Back to Wharfedale Grange
By the time everyone arrived back at Wharfedale Grange for the reception, the rain had cleared out, making way for drinks, canapés, and a brilliant live acoustic set by The Warning Tones. I got to work alongside the lovely Janina and Jawad from Reportage Studios, whose documentary, storytelling style perfectly mirrors my own approach to capturing natural wedding moments.
When it was time for the wedding breakfast, catered by the incredible Hog & Apple, Mary-Kate and Henry made an entrance that no one will forget. They were announced into the room to the iconic Jet2 theme song! A hilarious and brilliant nod to the exact place where they first met! Guests waved their napkins and cheered along as they danced into the room!
To keep the momentum going, the couple opted to do their speeches before the meal. This is always a fantastic choice if your bridal party wants to get the nerves out of the way early so they can fully relax, laugh, and enjoy the delicious food.
I’ve been a wedding videographer since 2010 and still love hearing those ‘how we met’ stories and childhood memories shared during the speeches!

Dancing the Night Away
As day turned to evening and the rain finally subsided, the cocktail hour transitioned into an unforgettable party. For their first dance, The Warning Tones played a live version of Lighthouse Family’s “High,” kicking off a night full of dancefloor shapes, laughter, and pure celebration.
Wharfedale Grange help make that first dance unforgettable with a surprise confetti canon set to go off at the perfect moment. And what a moment it was!
From high energy to subtle moments that could easily be missed, having me there as their wedding videographer ensured they could remember it all!
