An Elegant and Stylish Wedding at Lodore Falls Hotel

I feel very blessed to only be an hour or so away from one of the most beautiful parts of the world, The Lake District. With hills, valleys and iconic views wherever you turn, The Lakes is a real destination for adventures but also for getting married!

From Cartmel to Windermere and right up to Keswick, you’re spoilt for choice with stunning venues to get married in the Lake District. For this particular wedding the couple fell in love with Lodore Falls Hotel and Spa, nestled right on Derwentwater in the heart of Borrowdale.

If you’d love some elegant wedding inspiration or you’re planning a wedding at Lodore Falls then this is the wedding video you need to watch…

Wedding Highlights Video – Lodore Falls Hotel

Getting Ready With A View Of Derwentwater

In typical Lakes fashion, rain kept sweeping in over the hills as the Bridal party got ready in one of the suites overlooking the gardens and lake. The couple had everything crossed for an outdoor ceremony so the team kept checking in with weather reports and did well keeping everyone positive and hopeful!

Jenny had a specialist Asian make-up artist creating her natural wedding look for the day and family were nearby enjoying the tea and breakfast snacks on offer as I got to work capturing the wedding morning.

I always prefer working as a team of two videographers so whilst my second shooter was waiting for the Groom to arrive, he took the time to capture some ‘establishing shots’ of the stunning venue and location to help us set the scene for the final wedding videos.

Once the Groom and his Groomsmen arrived, he then had the fun of filming them setting up all the reception details. From a polaroid photobooth and cat sticker station to traditional Chinese board games, they had their hands full getting it all set up and looking perfect.

The team at Lodore Falls waited until the very last minute to call the outdoor wedding which worked so well and made for a very happy couple! Staff were drying the seats in the distance as Jenny got into her stunning wedding dress and made her Bridesmaids cry with her ‘first look’.

An Outdoor Ceremony With A Stunning Lake District Backdrop

I can see why Jenny and Anthony really wanted to get married outside at Lodore Falls. Everywhere you looked was an incredible backdrop, from the stunning stone hotel to the sweeping hills and lake. It was picture perfect and a joy to film as a wedding videographer!

Guests were in place and Anthony all ready in his tux at the top of the aisle when Jenny made her way from the hotel, across the little stone Bride on the arm of her very proud Dad.

There were a few tears shed as they stood together to say their vows and exchange wedding rings. And once married, and just before the rain returned, they walked back down the aisle as Husband and Wife as guests showered them in beautiful confetti!

Chinese Board Games and Asian Inspired Canapes

Inside the Conservatory the couple enjoyed all the hugs and congratulations as drinks and canapes were served. In all my years, I’ve never tasted such amazing canapes (or outright been offered them without needing to be sneaky/cheeky! What a treat!). Their canapes were Asian inspired, from sushi to satay chicken and all the flavours in-between.

I got to film lots of lovely candid moments around this time as everyone relaxed into the day, chatting and playing the traditional Chinese board games. I also caught a few arguments on camera over the rules! haha

We were working alongside Lara Luis Photography who managed to arrange the formal family group photos in-between the rain showers as well as enjoy a few canapes with me!

Once the groups were done and it was nearly time for the wedding breakfast, we took them for a little walk around the Lodore Falls gardens for some moments of just the two of them. This is always a lovely moment to film natural couple shots but it’s also a great opportunity for you as a couple to have a moment together. To really hit pause on the day and have a breather, I swear it helps slow things down a little for you!

An Intimate Wedding Reception and Heartfelt Speeches

Once everyone was seated in The Derwent Suite ready for the wedding breakfast, the couple were announced into the room with lots of cheers and ready to enjoy their 3 course meal. This is the part where we sneak off for a sit down and some food too but it was also the lovely moment where Jenny surprised us with some handmade personalised embroidered hoop with my name on (now proudly displayed in my home office!).

Once the meal was finished and champagne poured for the toasts, it was time for the wedding speeches! Despite English not being his first language, Jenny’s Dad shared some lovely stories of her growing up and had everyone laughing. It was then time for for some heartfelt childhood stories and them growing up together from both the Best Man and Jenny’s Brother. Before finally ending with Anthony’s Grooms speech.

As a little surprise addition, the Bridesmaids also hosted a ‘Mr and Mrs’ style shoe game (where the couple swap a shoe each and have to hold up either their own or their Partner’s to answer the question). Always a fun one to film for the reactions alone!

Wedding Videography at Lodore Falls Hotel

You can’t deny that Lodore Falls Hotel and Spa is a stunning venue in an equally stunning location. It really embraces the natural beauty that surrounds them and ensures you can make the most of every space for your wedding day.

Filming here, I was spoilt for choice and you really can get overwhelmed with all the potential locations! For me, it’s important that the couple enjoy themselves and don’t feel like they’re away from their guests for too long. So with that in mind, and being mindful to time it around the changes in weather, we let the couple lead a little on what was most important to them. And for them it was all about that dramatic shot on the jetty by the Lake more than the gardens and waterfall, so that’s what we made the time to do.

An added bonus for this wedding was that my second was brought his drone to play with and this helped us get some beautiful aerial shots of the couple by Derwentwater with the dramatic scenery in the background.

Sparklers and Dancing The Night Away at Lodore Falls

It was time for the evening celebrations. First up was a sparkler entrance across the bridge at Lodore Falls. For the first time ever I saw their staff bring out an interesting way to light the sparklers quickly…a blow torch!! And with their band all set up, it was time for the couple to cut their wedding cake and take to the floor for their first dance. HoneyBee Jazz Band did a stunning rendition of La Vie en Rose (in French I may add) and it inspired the music I chose for their Highlights film as it fit them and the vibe of the day so perfectly.

It really was an honour to have been chosen to capture Jenny and Anthony’s elegant wedding in the Lakes, I’m so grateful they chose me so thank you!
